My journey to motherhood

MOMMYLICIOUS

As a first time mom, with no prior experience with newborns (siblings, cousins, nephews or nieces), life was tough the first couple of weeks. I had never put on a diaper on a baby before, unless you count diapering a doll in the childbirth class. Yes, my condition was really THAT bad! Neither did I ever hold a newborn. But I am crazy about babies let me tell you. I just love them. I am obssessed with them. Anywhere I go I spot babies and just oogle at them, wanting to cuddle them. So, all my life I wanted to have babies and then one Christmas morning I find out there indeed was a bun in my oven. I was happy to the point of disbelife. Because the pessimist that I am, I always feared what if I cannot not have kids. With that fear out of my way, now there was the exciting journey of motherhood ahead of me.

My pregnancy went off pretty smoothy I have to say. I did not throw up but had mild morning sickness. I had a ginormous appetitite and slept well too. I had no aversion to food, neither did I have any crazy cravings. Yes my sweeth-tooth took a backseat and I preferred spicy food, but that was all manageable.

Almost everything went according to plan except the delivery. I really don't understand why people call it a 'birth plan' when really nothing happens according to the plan.

Just the day before my due date my water broke and I was at the hospital. Everything was happening as expected till I got the epidural. Yes, I had asked for it; rather begged for it after a whole night of excruciating contractions. I was dialated half way through. And things took a drastic turn just after the epidural.

My contractions became inconsistent and the baby's heartbeat started decreasing. This got us all worked up and it was understood that it would not be safe for me to wait till I dialate conpletely. Hence the emergency C-section.

And a mom was born along with the baby.
